SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE SOCIAL PROTECTION UNIT

The Social Protection Unit in Nyabihu District provides essential social services aimed at supporting vulnerable groups and improving community welfare. The Social Development Unit is responsible for protecting and supporting disadvantaged populations in order to help them overcome poverty through various social protection programs.

These programs include promoting access to education and health services, capacity building for vulnerable groups, facilitating access to housing, and providing assistive devices or prosthetics for persons with disabilities. The department also supports elderly vulnerable people with social assistance, including beneficiaries supported through Ministry of National Unity and Civic Engagement programs.

In addition, the department promotes small-scale income-generating projects, implements initiatives to combat malnutrition and stunting, and supports pregnant women and children under two years through Nutrition Sensitive Direct Support (NSDs). These services are also delivered through Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers linked to the VUP program.
