Nyabihu: MINEMA Permanent Secretary on a visit to inspect landslide-prone areas
On 21 July 2026, the Mayor of Nyabihu District, Mrs.MUKANDAYISENGA Antoinette, accompanied by security officials, received the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry in Charge of Emergency Management (MINEMA), Mr. NGOGA Aristarque, during a field visit to assess landslide-prone areas that could pose a threat to people's lives and property.
The visit aimed to assess areas vulnerable to landslides, identify their underlying causes and potential impacts, and jointly review preventive and mitigation measures in preparation for the forecast heavy rains associated with the El Niño weather phenomenon.
The delegation visited several high-risk locations, discussed strategies to safeguard lives and property, and underscored the importance of close coordination among all relevant institutions to strengthen disaster preparedness and reduce potential risks before they occur.
