NYABIHU: DISTRICT COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE PAST FIVE YEARS

On 31 August, the District Council, chaired by Mrs. HABANABAKIZE Protais, presented achievements registered over the past five years, covering the period from 2021 to 2025.

The event was attended by various leaders and development partners, including Hon. Dep. BAKUNDUFITE Christine, Member of Parliament, who was the Guest of Honour. Representatives from the Ministry of Local Government (MINALOC), the Rwanda Association of Local Government Authorities (RALGA) and representatives of security organs, were also present. Participants were received and welcomed by the Distrit Mayor, Mrs. MUKANDAYISENGA Antoinette.

The event brought together leaders from different levels of local government, from the District to the village level. Participants included Sector and Cell leaders, heads of District departments, representatives of the Joint Action Development Forum (JADF) and the Private Sector Federation (PSF), Youth Coordinators at Sector level, as well as Village leaders.

The achievements registered during the five-year period were presented through discussions, traditional dances and songs, documentary film and other activities showcasing the District’s contribution to improving citizens’ welfare and promoting socio-economic development.

Among the major achievements highlighted were the expansion of electricity infrastructure, efforts to prevent and address the production and consumption of illicit and substandard alcoholic beverages, as well as interventions aimed at addressing challenges affecting citizens’ welfare.

Hon. BAKUNDUFITE Christine commended the District for the achievements registered and urged leaders and development partners to safeguard the gains made and build on them, while strengthening efforts to address areas where targets have not yet been fully achieved.

She further called on leaders to continue developing sustainable development plans, strengthen implementation mechanisms and enhance coordination and collaboration among different institutions and stakeholders.

Citizens commended the District’s contribution to promoting good governance, economic development and social welfare. They also reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with local authorities in addressing remaining challenges that affect sustainable development.

Over the past five years, the District had a total of 183 resolutions planned for implementation. Of these, 173 were successfully implemented, representing an implementation rate of 95 percent.
